Custom Software and Development team

I am a very experienced project manager who works with our custom software and development team and clients to help deliver software and transformation projects. I am a qualified Prince 2 Practitioner and is also experienced in Agile systems development, Agile project, and Agile leadership methodologies.

As well as my work for soVision IT, I also teach Information Technology and project management disciplines to students studying for degrees and post-graduate qualifications at the Open University. I am very interested in the development of IT skills in the workplace and in particular working with internal IT teams to support their professional development, build cohesive teams, and improve their operational performance to support business improvement & change.

I am ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) qualified and currently mentor apprentices studying for degrees in the workplace from a wide range of industries. I am Skills for the Information Age (SFIA) trained and worked with the BCS (Chartered Institute for IT) to develop the first version of the BCS Professional Development Scheme for IT professionals. Whilst working as Head of ICT for Bristol City Council the department, I was awarded Most Improved IT Department by the Society of IT Managers.

As MD, I’m responsible for the strategic direction, culture, and ultimate growth of the Company. I’m proud of our team. Experienced and with so much talent and a depth of knowledge, they still surprise me every day. 

I’ve had such an interesting career, from being a recognised European expert in Project Management to being the Managing Director of a Major Division of a global Aerospace Company and Director of one of the UK’s largest Consultancy Operations. These roles have taught me so much about business and people. 

When I am not working as an IT support provider, I love my garden and I am an animal lover who loves to be close to nature. My wife calls me Dr. Doolittle as I talk to all animals and birds that frequent my garden or I meet in the wild. I love cooking and preparing most of the family’s meals. I must confess I am more experimental than my wife who is also an excellent cook.

I have 30+ years of software development and technical leadership experience, 20 years at British Aerospace (BAe, now BAE SYSTEMS) working for Concorde Support, the US Airforce (USAF), and Airbus, including 12 years working for CSC Computers Sciences (outsourced from BAe).

This includes 18 years in team leadership, project management, and technical leadership roles. 6 years of experience as an independent software development contractor – clients included Airbus, BAE SYSTEMS, and various engineering, financial, and manufacturing companies both locally and in Spain and France. I have been employed by soVision IT within the custom software and development team for 8+ years.

I have a wide range of technical experience from IBM Mainframes, HP Unix, MS Windows to Amazon Web Services and Azure, and the web. My current development stack includes .net, .net core, c#, MVC, Javascript, Typescript, MS Blazor, Angular, React, and Umbraco, building business and technical systems, and websites. I also have some experience in machine learning, data analysis, and categorisation using various artificial intelligence tools such as Python with Pandas and NumPy/SciPy, R, Microsoft ML.Net.

At soVision IT, I love the variety of working with our different customers both large and small within our custom software and development team. It’s always rewarding to solve a problem for someone.

I studied Chemistry at The University of Manchester before working at the Met Office. Science then continued as an interest rather than a career as I worked purely as a programmer in the private sector.

I love the adventure of travel and I’m looking forward to exploring the world with my young daughter. I enjoy running, hiking, and have recently got into yoga.

I am a software developer apprentice, working closely alongside Mark Harris within the custom software and app development team. My current role within soVision IT is to enhance my learning of coding, applications that we use, and maintain assignments for college. When work is completed by our Software development team, I test our products to make sure these applications work appropriately.

Learning something new and being involved with projects is my favourite part of the job, as it is helping the team. Being a team player is important to me!

Furthermore, I am a graduate in Sports Rehabilitation, and I do also like to keep my knowledge up about sports injuries and rehabilitation in my spare time when I am not coding as I am fascinated by how the human body functions. Finally, I am an outgoing and highly motivated guy to help the team whenever possible. I love to play football and badminton in my spare time as my main two hobbies, which is a great stress reliever!
